The court record
Every lawsuit we can find in this industry
Business debt settlement is an industry that sues and gets sued constantly, and almost nobody publishes the record in one place. Here it is, grouped by company and tagged by who did the suing, because a funder suing a settlement firm and a client suing one are close to opposite facts. Read that distinction before you read the list.
174
Matters on file
40
Brought by MCA funders
88
Brought by clients or consumers
16
Regulatory or criminal
How to read this. Funders sue settlement firms as a matter of routine, usually for tortious interference, and a firm that never gets sued by a funder may simply be a firm that never pushes one. So a funder tag is close to meaningless as a warning, and it is the tag most often waved around as though it settled something. The cases that tell you how a firm treats the people who hire it are the ones where a business owner, a consumer, or a regulator is the plaintiff.
One thing the numbers show. The competitor-compiled list this index started from runs about two to one toward funder suits. Once we searched federal district and bankruptcy dockets ourselves, the balance inverted: 88 client or consumer matters against 40 funder matters. Some of that is simply which courts we could reach, since several state portals block automated access. But the effect is the same either way. A list assembled by a rival will show you an industry being sued by funders. The record shows you an industry being sued by its customers, and those are different stories.

Dismissed WITHOUT PREJUDICE on November 17, 2022 by Judge Fred W. Slaughter (Dkt. 80, in-chambers Civil Minutes – General, 'ORDER DISMISSING CASE,' marked JS-6). The dismissal was sua sponte under Fed. R. Civ. Disposition section: 'For the reasons set forth above, the court DISMISSES the case WITHOUT PREJUDICE.' There was no ruling on the merits, no finding against the company, and no judgment. On July 13, 2011 the court entered a 'FINAL ORDER AND JUDGMENT APPROVING CLASS SETTLEMENT; all claims asserted herein on behalf of the Class are hereby dismissed with prejudice, with the exception of the still pending individual claims of Chad M. and Shasta L. Carlsen' (Dkt. 186). On July 15, 2011 the named plaintiffs' remaining individual claims were 'dismissed without prejudice and shall be resolved through arbitration' (Dkt. 188). A large part of this index was compiled by Beacon Client Solutions, which is itself a debt-resolution firm and a competitor of most companies it names. We reproduce its entries because the captions are real and checkable, we verified what we could against court records, and we label every entry we could not confirm rather than dropping it or dressing it up. Note also who is missing from a list assembled by a competitor. Apply the same skepticism to ours.
Court records are public and they change. A filed complaint contains allegations, not findings, and a case appearing here is not a conclusion that any company did anything wrong. Where a case ended, we say how it ended. Where we could not confirm a docket, we say that instead of guessing. Corrections get priority over everything else we publish, use the contact page. Last verified August 24, 2026.
